A stirrup jar is a type of pottery that gained popularity during the Late Bronze Age, likely originating in Crete. Designed for pouring expensive liquids, it replaced amphorae and spread to the Cyclades, eventually becoming standard in mainland Greece.

Used throughout the Eastern Mediterranean—including Crete, Cyprus, Rhodes, and parts of ancient Egypt—stirrup jars are closely associated with Mycenaean Greece.
