Canaan is a region primarily associated with Palestine, inhabited originally by the Canaanites. This name appears in cuneiform, Egyptian, and Phoenician writings from around the 15th century BCE, as well as in the Old Testament. "Canaan" can refer to different areas: all of Palestine and Syria, the land west of the Jordan River, or a coastal strip from Acre (ʿAkko) southhward.
