Hand Made Silver (ST925) Hanukkah
Hanukkah, or the Festival of Lights, is celebrated over eight nights starting on the 25th of Kislev, typically falling between late November and late December. The festival involves lighting the menorah, a candelabrum with nine branches, using the shamash candle to light one additional candle each night until all are lit on the final night.
Traditions include playing dreidel and enjoying oil-based foods like latkes and sufganiyot. The story of Hanukkah is found in the First and Second Books of Maccabees, which detail the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem following the revolt against Antiochus, who sought to impose Hellenistic practices. After the victory, Judah Maccabee led the Temple's rededication, during which a small flask of oil miraculously lasted eight days, leading to the eight-day celebration.
