The history of glass-making dates back to at least 3,600 BC in Mesopotamia, though some believe early glass objects were replicas from Egypt. Archaeological evidence suggests that true glass was first created in coastal North Syria, Mesopotamia, or Egypt. The earliest known glass objects, dating to around 2,000 BC, were beads created as by-products of metalworking or during the production of faience, a pre-glass material. Glass remained a luxury until the disasters of the late Bronze Age, which seemingly halted glass-making.
