The Nabatean Kingdom was an important political entity located in modern-day Jordan, existing from the 4th century BCE until approximately 106 CE. It is primarily known for the ruins of its capital, Petra. Evidence indicates that a prosperous community thrived in Petra by the 4th century BCE; however, the kingdom is generally recognized as beginning in the early 2nd century BCE, with its first known king, and ending with its annexation by Rome under Emperor Trajan in 106 CE.


The Nabateans were Arabian nomads from the Negev Desert who gained wealth by trading along the Incense Routes, which connected Qataban in Yemen to Gaza on the Mediterranean Sea. Their expertise in navigating the region and locating water sources allowed them to efficiently transport goods.  Very Rare
