Hollow objects filled with pebbles or pieces of clay have been discovered at Iron Age sites, primarily in tombs. The instrument known as a rattle is mentioned in the context of David transporting the Ark to Jerusalem, as referenced in Psalms 150:1-5: “Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with timbrel and dancing, praise Him with the strings and pipe, praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals.” It is important to note that rattles may have also served as children's toys, just as they do today.
